Ah yes, the infamous French Riviera, or should I say, La Côte d'Azur (The Blue Coast). The place to see and be seen; where it’s okay to bask in the sunlight on a 50-foot yacht or on sandy white beaches. If you want a place to relax and not have to feel the need to actually do something, journey over to the French coast! Location: Head toward the Provence region of France on the southeastern borders next to the Mediterranean to enjoy this coastal paradise. Seventy miles of shores, from Saint Tropez in France to the Italian border, are waiting for your arrival! Climate: The French Riviera has the benefit of approximately 300 sun-filled days, with the hottest months being June to August at around 40°C/104°F. The water is exceptionally enjoyable at 20-25°C (68-77°F). As for winter, November to February, expect temperatures to be around 5°C/41°F. Language/Currency: The official language in France is, of course, French. Their form of currency is the Euro (formerly the French Franc). Banknotes are in denominations of Euro 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of Euro 2, 1 and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cent. One Euro is equal to $1.28 in U.S. dollars. http://www.xe.com/ucc/ Things to do: Along the coast of France, there are some
well-known cities you can visit, such as: Monaco, Cannes, and Nice. In
all of these destinations there is a vast array of nightclubs, piano bars,
and pubs. In Cannes, you can expect to be informed on La Croisette, The
City on High (Haute Ville), and The Old Port as places to visit. Visit
www.frenchriviera-online.com to view all of the different activities there
are to enjoy in each locale. |

| Events:
In March, Nice offers a variety of events. Festin des Cougourdons, is a
religious event that is held in the gardens of the monastery at Cimiez.
The celebrations include a mass, dancing, performances of folk music and
sales. Other festivals along the French Riviera include: The Kite Festival
in Èze, and Violet Festival in Tourrettes–sur–Loup (Parades
of violet-decorated floats, folk groups). For month-by-month list of all
the festivals, visit http://hotelsdeluxe.com/Nice/events.html.
Considering the fact that the beaches are crystal clear, and walking from your hotel room to the beach is the most walking you want to do, you might not get around to other cities included on the French Riviera strip. In that case, pick up a tourist guidebook so you can at least say that you’ve “been” there. All information can be found at: |
