What’s the book? Sunset and Sawdust
Who wrote it? Joe R. Lansdale
Fiction or Non-Fiction? Fiction
What’s it about? The story takes place in
Depression-era East Texas. A woman kills her husband, who was the
constable, because he raped her. In that time, it was shocking that
a woman would dare commit such a crime. It was more shocking that
she became the constable afterwards, which leads her to try to solve
a murder of a woman and a baby.
What do critics say? It has been described as
a story that jumps up from the page with its narrative. Yet some
say it lacks something. I’ll let you be the judge but, for
me, it sounds interesting. Plus, it’s about a woman fighting
the stereotype of the decade.

What’s the book? The Return of the Dancing
Master
Who wrote it? Henning Mankell, Laurie Thompson
(translator)
Fiction or Non-Fiction? Fiction
What’s it about? A former policeman is murdered
in Sweden. His young partner decides to investigate, only to find
out that there is a connection between the murder and Neo-Nazi activity.
What do critics say? Mankell has written 33 novels
and lives in Sweden himself. The critics have described it as entertaining
and very deeply descriptive. Another murder mystery, this one will
go nicely with the former books.

The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book: A Collection of
Sunday Calvin and Hobbes Cartoons
By: Bill Watterson
Publication Date: September 1989
Why did I pick this book? It makes me nostalgic
to read comics that used to be in the paper when I was little. It
reminds me of Sunday mornings, eating my frosted flakes while reading
Calvin and Hobbes. So, if you are actually feeling lazy, this is
a cool book to have when you just want to hang around and be lazy.
