What’s the movie? Hidalgo

When does it come out? March 5th

Who’s in it? Viggo Mortensen, Omar
Sharif and Frank Collison

What’s it about? Viggo plays the
first American to take part in a
famous 3,000-mile race across the
Arabian Desert. But some
competitors want him out. It becomes
a race to survive for Viggo and his
mustang Hidalgo. Based on a true
story.

What’s my hunch? The reviews on
this movie are mixed. But for what I
have seen, it looks interesting and
well done. Plus, Viggo plays a
cowboy. Imagine him in his cowboy
boots (Exactly!)

What’s the movie? Starsky and
Hutch

When does it come out? March 5th

Who’s in it? Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson,
Snoop Dogg, and Vince Vaughn

website

What’s it about? A remake of the
television series starring Ben Stiller
and Owen Wilson. Stiller plays
serious policeman Starsky while
Wilson plays laid-back Hutch. Both
are trying to catch businessman
Vaughn for a huge drug deal.
What’s my hunch? I’ve said it before
and I’ll say it again: I have loved
Stiller’s movies (well, with the
exception of Zoolander). So I expect
this movie to be funny and original. I
will definitely be in the movie theater
for this one!

What’s the movie? Secret Window

When does it come out? March
12th

Who’s in it? Johnny Depp, Maria
Bello, and Timothy Hutton

website

What’s it about? Depp is a famous,
best-selling writer of thrill stories. But
one of his stories actually comes to
life, and now it’s his turn to be
terrified.
What’s my hunch? I love thrill
movies, and this one sounds very
intriguing. Depp is also calling my
attention because his performance in
Pirates was fabulous, so I expect the
best from him here as well.

What’s the movie? Taking Lives

When does it come out? March
19th

Who’s in it? Angelina Jolie, Ethan
Hawke, and Kiefer Sutherland

website

What’s it about? FBI agent Jolie is
sent to Montreal to solve a series of
murders because of her unusual
talent. But this case will become
personal.
What’s my hunch? If you like to
watch murder mysteries, this movie is
your ticket. It’s suspenseful and looks
like it will have you guessing until the
end. Plus, Jolie and Martinez (from
Unfaithful) are in it, which make even
the movie screen sweat.

What’s the movie? The Ladykillers

When does it come out? March
26th

Who’s in it? Tom Hanks, Irma Hall and
Marlon Wayans

website

What’s it about? The makers of O
Brother Where Art Thou? do a
remake of the 1955 comedy. Hanks
get together a group of thieves to pull
off a heist. In order to be discreet,
they assemble in a church-going
lady’s basement. But she’s smarter
than anyone thought.
What’s my hunch? It looks like it’s
going to be a funny movie. Hanks and
Wayans seem like an unlikely pair, but
they seem to pull it off nicely. So I think
this one is a good movie to see at
theaters.

What’s the book? Sunset and Sawdust

Who wrote it? Joe R. Lansdale

Fiction or Non-Fiction? Fiction

What’s it about? The story takes place in Depression-era East Texas. A woman kills her husband, who was the constable, because he raped her. In that time, it was shocking that a woman would dare commit such a crime. It was more shocking that she became the constable afterwards, which leads her to try to solve a murder of a woman and a baby.

What do critics say? It has been described as a story that jumps up from the page with its narrative. Yet some say it lacks something. I’ll let you be the judge but, for me, it sounds interesting. Plus, it’s about a woman fighting the stereotype of the decade.

What’s the book? The Return of the Dancing Master

Who wrote it? Henning Mankell, Laurie Thompson (translator)

Fiction or Non-Fiction? Fiction

What’s it about? A former policeman is murdered in Sweden. His young partner decides to investigate, only to find out that there is a connection between the murder and Neo-Nazi activity.

What do critics say? Mankell has written 33 novels and lives in Sweden himself. The critics have described it as entertaining and very deeply descriptive. Another murder mystery, this one will go nicely with the former books.

The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book: A Collection of Sunday Calvin and Hobbes Cartoons

By: Bill Watterson

Publication Date: September 1989

Why did I pick this book? It makes me nostalgic to read comics that used to be in the paper when I was little. It reminds me of Sunday mornings, eating my frosted flakes while reading Calvin and Hobbes. So, if you are actually feeling lazy, this is a cool book to have when you just want to hang around and be lazy.
